The color black.

Black. Most people give the color a bad reputation. Shockingly enough, it happens to be my favorite color. All that considered, it transfers over into clothes amazingly. I prefer to wear black over white, brown or really any color. It has an instant classiness, yet can give an edgy look. Black is a versatile color that is really the only color you can wear all of within an outfit. Basically, black is the color to wear.

The New Summer Hat

Fedoras? So last summer. The new hat that will be seen this summer at beaches and pools is the floppy sun hat. And the bigger, the better! I recently bought one with the last of the money I currently have. Why? Because it's adorable! You can pair this hat with a dress, jean shorts and a tank top, a bikini ; the options are endless. And sun protection? It has that too! These hats will be a huge trend of Summer 2010.

Two of the best things I've purchased recently...

1) These coats have many names, trench coats, detective coats, or just jackets. But whatever you want to call it, I found an amazing studded jacket at Forever 21 the other day. I automatically fell in love, and knew I had to buy it. (pictured right) It just had a classy look to it, yet very edgy and modern. It could really work for any event.

2) When I visited L.A, we went to a place I like to
call "shoe heaven". It's called Top Shoe and has amazing (yes, amazing) shoes from $5-30. The shoes I got are black pumps, made by Miss Me. They're about 6 inches high, but that for sure won't stop me from wearing them! (pictured left) Seriously if you are ever in Westwood, LA go there! Your life will be changed, I promise.

Rompers!

I've been wanting a romper for quite some time now and as I was shopping one day, I decided to FINALLY purchase one. I got mine from Forever 21 (click here for a look at their rompers) and it was one of the most comfortable things i've worn in a while. Personally, the romper is better than the jumpsuit. The romper is a fun spring/summer look that could be paired with wedges, gladiators, flip flops, or flats. Or if it's a little chilly? Throw on a leather jacket or cute cardigan! I can say I was pleasantly surprised with the romper!

Upcoming Red Carpet Icons?

My sister just recently brought up the Lea Michele and Dakota Fanning's style on the red carpet. I chose to further investigate this and Google it. And they've been talked about for a couple months now for there red carpet style. Here's a look at each:

Lea:

This Oscar de la Renta dress, which she wore to the Golden Globes, was probaly the most talked about of the Glee star's looks.
It looks very similar to the Romona Keveza dress she wore to the Grammy's, which was originally a wedding dress. (pictured right). Some critics say she doesn't dress her age. But most people (like me) think that she doesn't usually get it wrong with her red carpet style. Want to see more of Lea's looks? Click here.

Dakota:
Dakota Fanning has been in the acting game since she was a little kid, and as she grew so did her style. She's transformed herself from a young child star to a up and coming star. Her style has become mature, yet still has a young aspect to it. We'll be seeing more of this starlet's style on red carpets to come, I'm sure. Want to see more of Dakota's looks? Click here.

Fashion Consciousness ?

We all go through it. After you put on an outfit and you're ready to walk out the door, you pause and take one more long look in the mirror, almost a double take. Because there's always that uncertainty of if you picked the right outfit. Just the other day I was just going out to a casual dinner with friends and I looked in the mirror once, walked out of my room, and then stopped and walked back in to look once more. I find myself doing that with most my outfits. It's strange because sometimes even when you know you have an awesome outfit on, you just want to make sure it's the best, almost as if you're reassuring yourself.

Quote of the week

- Yves Saint Laurent

In one of the most famous fashion quotes, I don't think anyone could have said it better. Fashion trends may come and go, but your own personal style will always remain.

Accessorizing!

Love: Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham always looks fashionable. You see pictures of her in tabloids just going out doing simple errands in these fabulous outfits with 6 inch heels! It's amazing! I honestly haven't met one person that can deny she's got style. She just has a classic, yet trendy look to her clothes, and can always pull of any daring outfit she wears. I'm a fan of basically everything she wears.

Personal Style

So, if any of you have any inspiring fashion of you or just a random person, post them as a comment. It would be great to see every one's personal style!

Love: One-Shoulder

A trend I've been noticing and loving is the one- shouldered look for shirts and dresses. Whether it's a one- shoulder full sleeve, or just a normal cut shirt they are showing up everywhere! I found this amazing dress on forever 21's site, but sadly they were sold out before I could purchase it (pictured left). It has a nice asymmetrical cut that is flattering. Also many shirts have this style also (pictured right). I'm in love with one- shoulder because they can really work for any event. A nice dinner, a party, a wedding, or casual. I think this is a trend that is going to stick around for a while.

Dressing Up Dresses?

Strange phrasing I know, but dressing up dresses is a key element to making them look good. Whether you decide to pair a neutral dress with colorful shoes, or a colorful busy print with a neutral necklace or bracelet you can make any dress look great! The other night for a friend's surprise birthday party I wore a black peplum dress with a black leather jacket and colored pumps (pictured here is the dress). It was a simple little pop to a black outfit. But thinking back on it, I could have taken it even further with a colored headband or chunky bracelet. Or on the other hand you have a colorful dress or printed dress, personally I think those look best with one toned accessories, because you don't typically want clashing patterns. The examples below are from Forever 21 where I found my dress.

Neutral Dress: (Forever 21)

This fringe dress has detail but not too much, and I think would look great with some colored booties or even black with a hint of minor detail. And maybe a colored clutch of some sort. This outfit would be great for an edgy party look or semi-formal dinner.

Printed Dress: (Forever 21)

This dress has a nice tri-colored pattern that is a bandage dress type material. It's a nice color combo and would look great with some strappy heels or pumps, flats also look great with any dresses. This outfit would be great for a nighttime look, maybe dancing or dinner.

Let's Get Some Shoes.

So, it's insanely storming here in California. When it storms EVERYONE freaks out, but while it's not the end of the world, (yet) we still want to look good in the rain right? Of course! Yeah, I've worn my little plaid rain boots a couple of times, but as I was Googleing (who doesn't love a good Google?) I found these sick studded rain boots. Can you say awesome? Click here if you want to check out their site.

Love: Lady Gaga

Some people dislike Lady Gaga, while others (like me) love her! Not only is her music awesome, but her fashion is daring and insane! Only she could pull of the looks she wears, could you seriously imagine any other celebrity wearing those looks? Of course not! Because Gaga owns it! She shows her individual style and doesn't listen to what the critics say. She doesn't conform to the typical style, she has her own.

Love: Leather Jackets

Leather Jackets are a trend I really love. These accessories work with almost any outfit. When you put these on you just feel an automatic cool. You see leather jackets everywhere now a day. Whether it's runway, movies/tv, or celebrities ; leather jackets have made an impact on the fashion world. Hopefully, the leather jacket trend will live on for a while.
Runway:

Like most looks on the runway, this leather jacket is more exaggerated than most, but still has the true essence of the jacket. This one has the extreme shoulders and knotted bow type material in the stomach area. But it is a very wearable jacket for a normal life.

Movies/TV:

After my sister introduced me to the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, (which we finished all the seasons over break) I noticed all the horrific fashions from the 90's. But even then, Spike (one of the main characters and my sister's obsession, but we won't get into that) was wearing a trench leather jacket. Those aren't in now, present day, but I personally think that it inspired other shows to have their leads wearing leather jackets. Take for example, TheVampire Diaries, you have two guy vampires wearing the motorcycle jacketsconstantly. Or True Blood, they have their vampires also in leather jackets (not as often as Diaries though). So basically, Buffy started all these TV show leather jacket trends.

Celebrities:

Some people look to celebrities for their fashion inspiration. Which is understandable because they do have all the direct connections to all the latest fashions. There's many different styles of jackets and all celebs wear them differently.

Fashion Club

So, at my school I started a fashion club. But just recently I've been trying to get my club affiliated with the FIDM fashion club. It's not that it's hard, it just takes a very long time to do all the paperwork, then eventually mail it off and (fingers crossed) get accepted. I started all this after speaking to FIDM reps at a college fair. It was interesting to me how it all works, and that I can learn even more about fashion through this. If you are interested in starting a fashion club at your school check out their site.

Distressed Jeans

Distressed Jeans look awesome with basically anything. I just recently bought a pair from Macy's for only $15. They can look good for a chill laid back look, or a you can even dress them up for a more party look. I wore mine (pictured left) with yellow pumps for New Year's Eve. Distressed jeans came back into fashion around 2008, and I think it's going to stay in style for 2010 as well. Distressed was huge in the 80's, and just like most styles, it came back. There's a lot of different distressed styles, like acid wash, or just one or two slashes in the jean.

Love: Headbands

Headbands come in all different styles. Skinny, feathered, flowered, bandanna the list is endless. But you can pair a headband with any look. They can make or break an outfit sometimes. Forever 21 has great headbands, that's where I get most of mine. Target and Charlotte Russe also do. Headbands are typically cheap and cute additions to any outfit.

Love: Sunglasses

Sunglasses are an essential part of any outfit for me. I just don't feel right when walking out the door if I'm not wearing my sunglasses. Some people can't stand to wear them, while others (like me) have to have them constantly. I find my eyes hurting if I'm even outside for a couple of minutes without them. I love my RayBans and you don't need to buy them at the expensive designer stores. I just got a pair of cat eye RayBans off of ebay for only $83. Which is a good price for those (normally in the $100s in stores). There's always cheaper ways to get the items that will make your outfit, you just have to look.
